Scope

The following information is provided to guide access to the CHIMERA data in the Data Safe Haven and to support good working practice for researchers working with the CHIMERA data once approval has been granted.

Levels of access to the DSH

  • Researchers will only have inbound data access to the DSH.
  • Outbound data rights are restricted to the Information Asset Administrator (IAA - Sarah Keating).

Getting a UCL Data Safe Haven account

Step 1 - Approval granted by CHIMERA Scientific Advisory Group

Please see CHIMERA Data Access Request Guidance

Step 2

Complete Information Governance assurance process and upload your course certificate as directed.

Step 3

Let the IAA for the share know you have done step 2; for now that is Sarah Keating.

Step 4

The IAA will request that you be added and you will receive an email asking you to choose and attend a session with the DSH where you will get your credentials.

Note to IAA: Leave sufficient time between the certificate being uploaded and trying to create a new user for the certificate to have been fully recorded in the ISD systems.

Step 5

Let the IAA know you have done the DSH onboarding and send them your DSH ID. They will then add you to the CHIMERA shared data.

Process to access DSH

  • Log into the DSH here.

  • Each collaborator has access to the CHIMERA “share” in the DSH.

  • Each project should create a separate folder to work from.

  • When logged in to a VM collaborators will see:

  • Group (S:) from which you will see the DSH shares you have access to. You can use and access your own personal folder within this share, but we strongly recommend for speed that you create your own personal folder (see below)

MFT Arrivals (Q:) This is where files will arrive when you use the data upload portal

Home Drive (N:) Again we recommend that you work from Group (S:), rather than storing files here

Setting up for researcher use

Instructions for setting up R Studio

  1. Go to S:CHIMERA and create your own folder.

  2. Open Artefactory from the desktop start menu, essentially:

    • login using your DSH credentials
    • Go to Cran under the Arterfactory tab
    • Click “Set me up”
    • Type in password
    • copy code snipet

For more comprehensive instructions please review the DSH User Guide and FAQs in section named “How do I install packages on Anaconda using Artifactory?”: https://www.ucl.ac.uk/isd/services/file-storage-sharing/data-safe-haven/data-safe-haven-user-guide-faqs

  1. Add code snipet to a new .RProfile. The .Rprofile needs to be in the same folder as the project you are working in. You can create a different R profile for every project, depending on the package versions you are using

  2. Add a libPath() to your .RProflie

    • .libPath(“/CHIMERA/your_name_/folder where you want your local library to be”)
  3. Test loading your required packages

Ground Rules

  1. Do not attempt to re-identify individuals within the data set
  2. Do not bring data sets for linkage to the CHIMERA data into the DSH without prior approval
  3. Do not attempt to extract data from the DSH. This includes taking screenshots of your data.
  4. Do not write to, edit or delete any files other than your own.
  5. Do not change any of the files in the S:CHIMERA/UCLH folder

Outbound Data

Requests for downloading files from the DSH should be made to the IAA. These files will be checked prior to downloading to ensure they only contain summary data that does not allow identifiaction of individuals
